“The songs featured on the album were written in the years between leaving Fort Collins, CO, where I had lived for 18 years, and the steps I took to relocate and carve out a new home in Kansas City. During this time I lost a beloved grandmother, and my silly and happy dad. During this time we all lived through the strange and isolating experience of the Covid-19 pandemic, and during this time I met my partner, fell in love, and we bought a house together. These songs live up to the same mission I’ve had all these years as a songwriter. When I write, I want to tell the truth even when it’s hard or weird, always hoping to bring in more people who have felt the same.”
Fumbling is Danielle Ate the Sandwich’s first full length release of original songs since 2016. The album was recorded in Kansas City, KS, by Fritz Hutchison, and produced by Fritz Hutchison and Al Hawkins using all local musicians and artists. The recording and release process aims to bring together a community of musicians, artists and makers, with the intent to celebrate and support these artists with financial compensation, to develop connections for future collaboration, and to help introduce Danielle Ate the Sandwich as a member of the musical community of the Kansas City region.
