Life as a Songwriter | Online Songwriting Class

LIFE AS A SONGWRITER is a four week songwriting course led by singer/songwriter, performing artist and teacher, Danielle Ate the Sandwich. This course will cover creating melodies, lyrics and phrasing, trusting your instincts and honing your editing skills. Each class will include short lectures with writing prompts and exercises, time for sharing, and break out sessions to talk about your experience and progress. This group serves as great instruction, inspiration, and accountability. REGISTER FOR THE SEPTEMBER session here!

Also included in the cost of registration:
-one on one feedback session with Danielle
-song share two weeks after the class ends to share their progress

The goal of Life as a Songwriter is to finish a new song to perform at the end of the four week session, to build skills for writing and editing, and establish a routine habit of sitting down to write, think, and live as a songwriter.

We cover the basics for beginners, and review techniques and run through creative exercises for those who have more experience. Proficiency on an instrument is encouraged. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Danielle Ate the Sandwich is the stage name of pop-folk songwriter Danielle Anderson. Getting her start in Fort Collins, CO, now based in Kansas City, MO, Danielle has been touring nationally since 2009, after cultivating an online following from her homemade videos on Youtube. Danielle Ate the Sandwich has released seven albums of original music, made appearances internationally, opened for Mumford and Sons, Jake Shimabukuro, Suzanne Vega, Pomplamoose, and wrote the soundtrack to the Emmy nominated HBO documentary, “Packed in a Trunk: The Lost Art of Edith Lake Wilkinson.” Her newest project is an EP of original songs featured in the documentary “It’s Not a Burden: The Humor and Heartache of Raising Elderly Parents.”

Danielle Ate the Sandwich’s music has been compared to Joni Mitchell, Sara Bareilles, and Ingrid Michaelson. Her songs are lyrically driven, performed on ukulele and guitar, and find inspiration from her curiosity about death, science, religion, family dynamics, and her own emotions and experiences. Danielle Ate the Sandwich plays with the joy and sadness of the human experience, making you laugh one minute and cry the next. Her songs can be thoughtful and serious, but she’s known for her quirky lyrical twists, and for delivering witty and honest stage banter in her live shows.

Danielle Ate the Sandwich | www.danielleatethesandwich.com

Combining soft, lilting vocals with poignant honesty and wit, Danielle Ate the Sandwich (Danielle Anderson), writes songs for the biggest and smallest moments of life. A songwriter, ukulele and guitar player, and performer, Danielle first found her place at open mic nights and coffee shops in Fort Collins, Colorado, and is now based in Kansas City, MO. Growing a fan base through her homemade videos on YouTube, Danielle performed and toured extensively from 2009-2018, leaving an impression on audiences across the country, and fans around the world.

Danielle has released 7 albums of original music, over 200 YouTube videos, and conducts an annual 24 Hour Album project, writing and producing new songs with the help of her patrons in only twenty four hours.

She has opened for Mumford and Sons, Jake Shimabukuro, and had the opportunity to write the soundtrack to the Emmy nominated HBO documentary, “Packed in a Trunk: The Lost Art of Edith Lake Wilkinson.” In 2023, Danielle was awarded a 2-year studio residency at the Charlotte Street Foundation in Kansas City, MO, and is currently in the studio working on her 8th full length release of original folk songs.

Monica Marie LaBonte | www.monicamariemusic.com/

From a wide-eyed tike delicately pressing the keys of her mother’s upright piano to a seasoned artist taking various stages across the country, Monica Marie LaBonte has always been guided by song.

With the sharp ability to craft tracks that speak to the fragility and wonder of life, the crystalline vocalist continues to attract listeners with her stirring blend of folk and country. At times, her lyrics come across as wise whisperings from a dear friend. At others, they hold all the vulnerability and transparency of raw confessions. A keen observer, LaBonte bears witness to life’s magic and heartache and artfully weaves the intricacies of the human condition into tunes that possess undeniable intimacy, grace and grit.

In her over 10-year career, the Colorado native has played hundreds of venues, including the historic Gold Hill Inn and Planet Bluegrass. Whether belting out ballads in a small listening room or playing to tens of thousands at an open-air venue, she brings a palpable authenticity to each gig.

Known for her stint in mystic-Americana band Monocle, her stellar musicianship and gift for commanding a stage shines just as bright in her solo work.

Armed with an acoustic and her truth, it’s clear LaBonte is pursuing her art for all the right reasons. Although her creative pursuits are guided by pure passion, LaBonte hasn’t escaped critical praise and success. A finalist In the 2018 Songwriter Showcase, at Rocky Mountain Folks Fest in Lyons, Colo., she continues to impress with her art.
